Wayne Shaneyfelt - Obituary

Wayne Shaneyfelt, 89, long time resident of Aurora, died Thursday, April 6, 2006 in Lincoln.
Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, April 18 at 1:30 in the First Christian Church in Aurora.
Wayne Arthur Shaneyfelt, son of John and Elizabeth Shaneyfelt, was born Jan. 21, 1917 in Rhame, N.D. When he was six his family moved to Aurora where he lived until moving to Lincoln in 2004.
He graduated from Aurora High School in 1935. After working at the family business, Shaneyfelt Produce, he began his career with the U.S. Postal Service, as a substitute letter carrier in 1936. He received a full-time appointment as postal clerk in 1939. His Postal career was interrupted by World War II, and he was drafted in March 1941. During his five years in the Army Air Corp. he rose to the rank of Master Sergeant, spending most of his military time in charge of medical records at Lowry Field Base Hospital in Denver, Colo.
He married Ethel Maree Beins at her family farm on Sept. 21, 1941. The couple spent their early-married life in Denver. At the end of the war, they returned to Aurora and he resumed work at the Post Office. “Shaney,” as he was known, was promoted to Postmaster in 1956, serving in that capacity until retiring in 1975.
He was a member of the First Christian Church, Rotary, American Legion, Hamilton Community Foundation and other civic organizations.
Survivors include his wife, Ethel Maree of Lincoln; daughter, Rita (Lee) Bring of Lincoln; son Randy (Audrey) Shaneyfelt of Loch Lloyd, Mo.; granddaughters Angie Bring of Orlando, Fla. and Ashley Shaneyfelt of Lawrence, Kan.; grandsons Chad Bring of Omaha and Drew Shaneyfelt of Mission, Kan.; sisters Gladys Swanson of Bassett and Lois Buttermore of North Platte; brothers Lyle Shaneyfelt of Aurora and Glenn Shaneyfelt of Norfolk.
He was preceded in death by infant sister Agnes, sister Lucille and brother George who was killed in action in World War II.
A memorial fund has been established at the Hamilton Community Foundation in his honor. Cards of condolence can be sent to Ethel Mariee Shaneyfelt, Apt. 244, Grabrcy Hill, 6800 A Street, Lincoln, NE 68510.

Hi Chad, I stumbled on your blog while Googling "Shaneyfelt". Your grandpa was a cousin of my Dad's, Leon Joseph Shaneyfelt, who grew up in Aurora. I guess that makes us related too....my Dad passed away in 2005 at age 83.
Also, I have a pen from Shaneyfelt Produce. If anyone in your family doesn't have one and would like it, let me know. Lynne Shaneyfelt WraithNight5@aol.com
