At the household, my parents vs. my sister debate on the true definition of 'dinner'. Now what may seem like an obvious definition to you, doesn't work against a farmboy and his wife.
'Dinner' to my parents is noon/lunch.
'Dinner' to my sister & I is evening/supper.
Dictionary.com lists: din·ner - 1. The chief meal of the day, eaten in the evening or at midday.
Wikipedia has a few definitions of its own...
Most menus list: breakfast, lunch, & dinner.
If someone says, do you want go out to dinner? It is usually at night/evening.
What is your definition?

It's in the evening. Although some holiday dinners can be eaten as early as 2:00. Usually it's after 5:00.
